The 1995 >Rugby World Cup was held in in South Africa in June. The hosts were taking part in their first finals after being excluded from the previous two because of apartheid. The Rainbow Nation secured an historic victory when they beat the favourites New Zealand in Johannesburg. Nelson Mandela inspired the team to defy the odds with an extra time victory.
