Rugby in France was introduced in the 1870s. The French Federation was founded in 1919, though the National team had already particpated in the 5 Nations. With a large playing base France is now one of the leading Nations in World Rugby. They have been runners up in the World Cup on three occasions. The National team has won more 6 Nations then any other and their clubs regularly compete in the final of European competitions. The Domestic competition is played bewtween the Top 14 club sides in the country.
